Fitting the Protea Seat

The Protea is supplied with a wall mounting bracket ( 600mm x 200mm) for installation on any solid wall. The seat can be installed on the left or the right hand wall of the shower. It is recommended that the Protea Seat is mounted on a solid wall; either brick or blockwork. The seat can be set to lock at an angle in the transfer position to avoid obstructions such as a shower door frame (see below). Full fitting instructions are provided.

Shower Cubicle Size

A shower cubicle measuring 36" x 36" (900mm by 900mm) allows easy transfer of users into the shower using the Protea seat. For smaller cubicles use the following guidelines to determine the minimum sizes.

Measure the distance from the front of the user's knee to back when seated (h).
The inside depth (i) of the cubicle required can then be determined from the following table:

Shower Door Opening

The Protea Seat is ideally fitted to a shower cubicle which has a curtain rather than a shower door.

If there is an existing shower door frame then the minimum distance required from the wall to the door frame is j. The distance j is ½" (10 mm) less than i if the Protea is mounted 4"(100mm) into the shower (k). The door opening j must be not more than 3" (75mm) less than i if the Protea is mounted 12" (305mm) into the shower.

Locking Positions

The Protea Seat is set to lock so that the side of the seat is parallel to the wall when the seat is in the transfer position.

An alternative locking position can be set so that the side of the seat is at a 12 degree angle to the wall.

This allows the seat to avoid an obstruction such as a door frame. The clearance m in the standard position is 2½" (60mm). In the alternative position it can be up to 5" (125mm) depending on where the Protea is positioned within the shower.

Seat height is set during installation to suit the user.
